We want the best search engine for our clients: the latest Doofinder news!

In the last few months, the Doofinder team has been working hard on some new functionalities that make Doofinder even better.

We are sure you will love these improvements!

1. Improvements for all Doofinder clients

To detect the searches which returned No Results

There isn’t anything more frustrating for a client than a search with no results. Doofinder already offered the possibility to detect the searches which did not return satisfying results. Now, you can identity which searches are not returning any results.

You only have to access the doofinder admin panel, click on your Search Engine and select Statistics. Here you will find the searches with No Results under the Top Opportunities.

Separate Statistics depending on the device used by the client.

All the e-commerce experts are predicting the take off of m-commerce in the coming years. To help you analyse this trend and the habits of your clients, we have started to distinguish search statistics made through desktop and laptops, from those made through mobile devices.

When you log into your doofinder admin, go to Statistics and choose among All, Desktop or Mobile.

Important: The sum of Desktop and Mobile may not be the same as the total, for example, searches could be made server to server or from devices which cannot be classified.

Changes in the boosting functionalities

In the section “boosting” of your admin panel, you will find yet another improvement. From the first day of its usage, Doofinder learns from your users’ search behaviour on the site and  highlights the relevance of certain results by applying a multiplier to the score of the search results.

Now you can decide how much importance to give to this coefficient on a scale of 1 to 5, so that you always decide the weighting you give to the Doofinder learning. If you do not want to use this feature you can also disable it.

2. New functionalities in the brand new Doofinder layer version 7

In the “banners” section of your admin panel, you can check the amount of times a banner has been shown and the amount of clicks it has received. At a quick glance you can analyse the effectiveness of your banners.

To include widgets for size and colour

Some facets, such as colour and size, require a more visual representation than a simple list of terms. Thanks to the new grid widgets in version 7 of the layer, it is possible to display the terms of a facet in a grid or in a colour palette (as shown below).

You can also include custom sorting parameters, ascending or descending for the facets displayed in grid.

See the layer documentation for more information:

The users can see the last searches they performed

In the Classic layer it is possible to add an option for the user to view their latest searches on your online store. If you enable this option, when the user clicks on the search box they will see a small layer with the latest searches performed.searches performed

This way your users will not forget what products have interested them 😉

It is very easy to set up, we will quickly explain how with this tutorial

Improved grid view layer

As you know, the layer supports two ways of displaying results: as a list or grid view.

So far, whether the gridview was displayed correctly (with all results perfectly aligned) depended solely on the layer’s Javascript code.

The new version 7 layer uses the latest CSS standards to provide the best possible grid view, dispensing with Javascript code, if the layer detects that the browser is compatible.

And if it isn’t, we’ve also improved the performance of the Javascript solution to make it much faster and work better in the vast majority of situations.

3. Other news

The integration of banners in the search layer is one of the favourite features of our customers. Whether it is used to highlight certain products or brands, to highlight a promotion or  special events or any other important information.

That is why we have updated our WooCommerce and Magento 1 modules so that you can integrate the Doofinder contextual banners into your results pages of WooCommerce and Magento 1 just like you can do for Prestashop.

If you have more questions, don’t worry because the last news we wanted to share with you in this post is the new FAQ section on the Doofinder website. Don’t hesitate to visit it if you need help!
