No-results searches / zero-result searches
A query that the search engine is unable to answer with any product from the catalog, leaving the user facing a blank page.

Most common causes: the product exists but is named differently in the catalog, the product is not available, or there is a typo the search engine cannot interpret. Technically, it occurs when the result set has a size of zero. In engines with fuzzy matching or synonyms it is less frequent but never disappears entirely. Key distinction: a zero-result query is different from an empty query, where the user activates the search bar without typing anything.

The list of zero-result terms is one of the most actionable reports available: it reveals what users want to buy that the store isn't offering them, what vocabulary they use to search, and what gaps exist between the catalog and real demand. Every entry is an optimization opportunity.

The stats panel logs all zero-result searches in the Stats Overview section. From there, action can be taken directly: creating a synonym, configuring a custom result, or adding a redirect.
